Andorra is the best destination for ski mountaineering. Discover it here!
If you are looking for a truly unique and exciting skiing experience, ski mountaineering in Andorra awaits you.
Maybe you already know about ski touring or you haven't tried it yet and are curious about it. If so, you've come to the right place. In Andorra you'll find a wide range of options for practising this discipline, whether you're a beginner or an experienced skier. The resorts offer circuits adapted for skimo and mountain ski passes so that you can enjoy yourself in complete safety.
Ski mountaineering in Andorra
In recent years more and more skiers have opted for this sport. If you already ski, but you like challenges and experiencing new sensations, ski touring is definitely for you!
It requires skiing skills and it is also more demanding, as strength and endurance come into play. Unlike alpine skiing, in which you go down marked trails, ski mountaineering allows you to explore less trodden areas, off the beaten track. The equipment used is different: with sealskins and special bindings, you climb up the circuit with your own strength, which is then rewarded on the descent.
Discovering new landscapes
Another of skimo's strong points is the direct contact with nature. As the circuits are located away from the alpine ski trails, you can explore less frequented landscapes, snow-covered forests or even summits.
Ski mountaineering circuits at Grandvalira Resorts
The resorts have well-marked routes designed for all levels, whether you're just starting out or you want to test yourself on more challenging routes.
• Grandvalira has a total of 15 circuits spread across its sectors.
• Pal Arinsal offers 8 circuits of 19 kilometres in total, 7 in Pal and 1 in Arinsal.
• Finally, in Ordino Arcalís you will find 5 itineraries.
The Grandvalira Mountain Pass
You will have to buy a Grandvalira day mountain pass (for proximity to the hotel) which gives you access to the ski mountaineering and snowshoeing circuits. It also allows you one ascent and descent per day and per lift in the Soldeu cable car, the Tarter cable car, the Canillo cable car, the Pioners in Pas de la Casa, the Funicamp and the Montmalús ski lift.
As we have said, this sport is gaining more and more followers, and for this reason certain rules have been established and must be respected. It is important to know the circuits and timetables for practising it. Before venturing into the mountains, make sure you are well prepared. This includes having the right equipment, knowing the weather conditions and having a route plan.
In addition, Grandvalira offers the possibility of hiring excursions with specialised guides, whether you want to get started or if you already have the level to dare to go on more challenging outings.
