Hiking in Andorra: easy trails to the lakes
We want you to discover some of the easiest treks to the lakes, suitable for families with young children.
With the arrival of good weather, our snowy mountains change their appearance to dress in intense greens. Meadows full of flowers, rivers that come down to overflow because of thaw, birds, squirrels ... Nature in its purest state on the hiking trails you'll find throughout the country.
The time has come to plan some excursions to enjoy all this natural beauty. Do you dare to follow us?
One of the essential treks in your visit to Andorra are the Pessons Lakes
It's a route which is also ideal to do in family. A rocky landscape that houses the largest glacier circle in the country that you can comfortably access by car. To visit them, you must go to the Grau Roig area and park your car in the parking lot to continue walking along the mountain road that will take you to the first lake, where you will also find a cafeteria - restaurant with stunning views. If you prefer, you can take a 4x4 bus that will take you to the first lake (option more than recommended if you are going with children and you want to save them half an hour on the way). From there, put on your boots and walk as much as you want! The complete and circular route is about 11 kilometres with an accumulated difference of just over 500m ... about 4 hours of easy hiking which will give you the opportunity to see several lakes: Estany Forcat, Estany Rodó, Estany de Meligar, Estany de les Fonts and the last Lake of Pessons among others.
Another classic among the easy treks to the lakes is the Juclar Lake, the largest in Andorra
The access is at the end of the Incles Valley. In summer, there is the possibility of doing the section that goes from the beginning of the road to the picnic place by electric bus, and thus save a part of the route. From the picnic area, we will take a forest road that marks the route to Juclar and we will start our march. A bit more demanding than Pessons, the excursion to Juclar will take us approximately 1h30 of ascent (and return by the same road) with a difference of about 500m in little more than 4k of route. Along the way we will arrive at the viewpoint of Juclar, the first Lake of Juclar and finally to the Second Lake de Juclar (smaller than the first but in a wilder environment).
But the easy hiking lake par excellence is Engolasters
It is perfect for families with small children or for older people who want to walk around a lake without practically unevenness. Engolasters is reached almost, almost by car. After 5 minutes of an easy way, we already see the lake that we will be able to walk around. It is an artificial lake whose waters are used to supply the country's hydroelectric power plant, that is why you will not be able to bathe in. However, if you like fishing, you can buy a ticket to fish during the day, or simply observe the skill of the fishermen who frequent the place.
If you have as much desire for summer as we do, start planning your holidays now.
