What documents are necessary to travel to Andorra?
Do you want to come to Andorra to ski this winter and have doubts about what documentation you need?
Are you already dreaming of your ski holiday in Andorra?
It's time to start planning your trip to our country. Documentation is an essential part of this preparation, as without it you cannot enter the country.
We explain you what to bring and we give you some tips to make your trip perfect.
Documentation and health agreements
Traveling to Andorra means leaving the European Union and going through customs before entering, that’s why official identification documents are necessary. Adults have to carry their ID card or passport, while minors, if they are accompanied by their parents, will also need the family book. If they are accompanied by others who are not their legal tutors, a special permission to leave the country must be issued by the police or the city council.
If your country is not a member of the European Union, it is important to consult with the authorities of your country what documentation you need to travel.
Before traveling, consult your country’s health agreements that may exist with Andorra and fulfil the necessary forms necessary so you will be able to access to healthcare if necessary. We have agreements with the social security of Spain, France and Portugal, but you will need to take with you the paper issued by your country.
All documentation you wear must have a validity date of at least one month before the end of your trip.
Drive
Unlike in many countries, you don’t need to have an international driving license to drive through Andorra, if the goal of your visit is tourism. With your license, you can drive and rent a car in the Principality.
If you bring your own car, we recommend you to prepare it for the roads of our country. In winter, snow and ice can be a great danger on the road, especially in the north, so you will need chains or special wheels. It is also important to check the road conditions before you move.
Get prepared
Now is the perfect time to start preparing all the documents you need to travel. Some procedures such as renewing the passport or the ID card can take weeks before you get it.
It is recommended that you protect the documentation from damage of the trip, especially from liquids (such as soaps or water bottles), if you have any with you. And if you take more than one valid document, it is recommended to keep them on different baggages or to ask someone else to bring one of them with them.
Remember also in the moment of buying that if you want to cross the border without having to declare any product, you have to respect the limits of Andorra’s custom franchises.
